Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve

Spartanburg, SC

At the Hatcher Garden in Spartanburg, Noble Tree Foundation started a continuing children’s study program on the science and value of trees entitled, “A Woodland Garden for All Seasons”. These year-round SC Science-Standards based workshops for Spartanburg County school groups cover topics such as trees’ importance, benefits, features, composition, products, planting/care and conservation properties. The initial workshops are held at Hatcher Garden for identifying, investigating and discussing Hatcher Garden’s Noble Trees. Following workshops are held in classrooms at the participating school, culminating in planting a Noble Tree on school grounds.

We work to promote the presence of Noble Trees in Spartanburg County and beyond by

  • Generating enthusiasm for the value of Noble Trees in our ecological system
  • Promoting educational opportunities wherein knowledge of, and appreciation for, Noble Trees are featured
  • Encouraging continual tree planting and maintenance programs distinguished by the use of appropriate trees, planting practices, and maintenance techniques, to include specific project support
  • Serving as a catalyst and guide for funding and encouragement of the aforementioned objectives
